Lava Lobster
Steaming scarlet scales sizzle surrounding seas. The crimson rust red and black armour bedecked horror clicks and clanks forward. Powerful pincers prying open and popping prey.
The undersea lava vents sometimes have unexpected results amongst the native wildlife. The local lobster population has evolved to make use of the liquid lava pools. To prevent predators from feasting on the young the adult lobster buries the young underneath the heated vents.
With time the young lobsters carapace thickens and blackens to a hardened state. Upon hatching they already have a leathery layer which will only increase with time. As lava lobsters never stray far from the spawning pools they are constantly bombarded with flecks of lava, ash and heat. Throughout the years the carapace hardens to almost plate mail levels of strength. Because of this Mollusk men and Mermen will look to either capture, tame or make use of the scales.
Lava lobsters are incredibly hot, due to this they will unleash the heat in small blasts of super heated steam. Many the fishing trawler has gone up in flames due to these scaled scorchers.
