TTRPG creations: 73/365: Midnight Algae

Midnight Algae

Gentle waves rock fishing vessels to sleep. The ocean pitch black, slow rolling waves lapping gently back and forth. A brilliant bright moon shining overhead, gentle lunar rays bouncing beams across the waves.

Captains call out and fisherman scramble to sides. Nets are slowly dragged in from ink coloured water. Forearms yank rope up, inch by inch metre by metre hauling up the night's catch from the saline sea.

Men call out in confusion at they prized they pulled. Coiled around knotted nets are midnight black clumps of algae. Stomping down steps the salty captain comes over. His lantern moves over the plant life, it almost seems to absorb the light of the flickering flames. A hideous ebony growth that bubbles and hisses.

Muttering about cursed catches and Ill omens he commands it cast over. As the men hurl the horror harvest over it catches upon the hull. With a lurch the boat starts to tip over. Curling along the wood inch thick vines wind along the sails. Wood groans and cracks, masts snap.

The crew are cast overboard into the awaiting waters. The full moon emits the only light beaming down upon the waters. One by one sailors are plucked underneath. Being yanked and pulled quickly downwards before feeling the pressing grind of flat teeth.
