The Maritime Mutants
Humanity was only meant to be a guest under the waves. A passing traveler, a quick vagrant, a passing holiday. The human body doesn't adept well deep down. The pulsing pressure, lack of light and crushing currents serve only to swallow the weak. For the humans that are captured and brought beneath the sea only modification exists.
The weak are culled, hacked up and used for a variety of purposes. From chum for molluscs or fertilizer for seaweed to aphrodisiacs for the rich, usually dried, ground and snorted. Healthy stock is taken aside, measured and sold. Gills are grafted onto the neck and servitude begins.
From basic muscle to pleasure pawns humans, dwarves, elves and halflings are used for any and all manner of things. Owners will usually look to customise the basic model for the task. First the vivisection to remove or add organs, a cleric is kept on standby throughout the procedure. After comes the additional benefits. Removing hands to be replaced with hooked tentacles. Eyes scooped out as to not interfere with echo location. Ink sacs stitched into throats. Extra or less appendages. Added orifices, removed limbs truly whatever the buyer desires.
The servant is kept alive and awake throughout every procedure. Taken care of as to not slip away and kept strong enough to watch. This is done to burn in the first and most important lesson. The more flesh that is taken, the less humanity remains.
